Madrid

Spain’s capital — world-class museums, the best churros, and a buzzing nightlife.

Los Museos

Museo Nacional Del Prado

The Prado is my favorite museum in Spain. It’s the one most people have heard of, and for good reason. It has the largest collection of works by artists such as El Greco, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Goya, and hundreds of other works. What makes this museum special is that much of the art was collected by the Habsburg monarchy and other rulers over the past 600 years.

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

This museum is home to some of the most important Spanish art from the 20th century. You can find Picasso’s Guernica as well as much more from artists such as Dalí and Miró.

The Best Churros

Chocolatería San Ginés

The best churros in Madrid can be found at Chocolatería San Ginés. The store is actually called a churrería. The churros are amazing, but the best part is the chocolate that you dip them into. I really can’t describe how delicious it is. Take a look for yourself.

Justin’s tip: San Ginés is open 24 hours. Go late at night after dinner — it’s a Madrid tradition. Order the churros con chocolate and prepare to be amazed.

Some Fun Activities

Plaza Mayor

This is a large square within the city that has many food options and entertainment. This place is very touristy, but I would say it is worth visiting.

El Palacio Real de Madrid

El Palacio Real de Madrid, the official residence of the Spanish royal family, is a stunning 18th-century palace known for its beautiful architecture and lavish interiors. With over 3,000 rooms, it features impressive art collections, grand staircases, and beautiful gardens. If you have time you can explore its rich history and opulent rooms, making it a must-see attraction in Madrid.
