Italy

The people, the food, the scenery — my absolute favorite place in Europe.

Location & Geography

Italy is a boot-shaped country in Southern Europe surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. Neighboring countries include Austria, France, Slovenia, and Switzerland. The capital city is Rome, which is also the largest city. Within Rome is Vatican City, which is its own country. The official language is Italian, and the currency is the Euro.

Food

In terms of food, there are only three things I really eat when I go to Italy: Pizza, Pasta, and Gelato.

Justin’s tip: Don’t bother with tourist restaurants near major landmarks. Walk a few blocks into the residential streets — that’s where the real food is. And always ask for the house wine.

Why It’s My Favorite

Italy is a special place for me. I love the people, the food, and the scenery. The people are very friendly and welcoming, and the country is filled with beautiful and scenic places. I thought I was in heaven when I visited Capri and Positano.

Italy also has amazing shopping, from high-end designers to local street markets where they sell hand-made leather goods and everything else you could possibly need. Finally, the country has so much history, and it feels like you are going back in time when you enter the city of Rome.
